Dear dmb,
Who are the Bobbsey Twins? Only the longest running series of books for children in history. Here's a web site that tells you a lot (probably a lot more than you ever wanted or needed to know, including some amusing inconsistancies) about that dynamic duo.
Got to admit - they were BIG favorites of mine when I was about 6 or 7.
Don't think I ever caught any of those inconsistancies, though. Guess I wasn't too big on critical analysis way back then.

Now that we have the Bobbsey Twins, what about Enid Blyton's Famous Five and Secret Seven? (Are the Bobbsey Twins truly older?) Even in Oz we had the Bobbsey twins when I was a baby.

Tossing in an Ozzie contender - Arthue Upfields "Boney".

Dear Deborann,
If you'll check page 1 of this thread, you'll see that dmb beat you to it ( i.e. suggesting Enid Blyton's books).
Regards,
John

Umm. I know this discussion is winding down, but, as I love kids books (don't get me started on Harry Potter), I feel I must mention my own childhood favourite detective:

Encyclopedia Brown (Created by Donald J. Sobol)

Anyone else ever match wits with Encyclopedia Brown? I liked it because they would give you all the clues in the story, then, at the end, Encyclopedia Brown would announce who the culprit was. Then the author would write
"How did Encyclopedia Brown know ?" and you had to turn the book upside down to read the chain of logic he used to catch the bad guy.
