So I'll be heading to Japan around the end of July to start work with one of the big four eikaiwa companies. They have me placed in two schools, one in Kumegawa and the other in Sayama.

I havn't been able to find ANY info on Kumegawa except that it's a train stop on the Seibu line and that it's in or near Higashimurayama.

Sayama has a small page on wikipedia but nothing that informative.

Does anyone have any first or secondhand experience with these places? I assume I should just expect them to be satellite cities of Tokyo with like a 30-45 minute ride in to the Yamanote line. Other than that, I'm not really sure what I can expect.

One other thing... has anyone else from a big four been placed in two separate schools when you first started? If so, what was your overall impression? How much did the commute suck?

Thanks.

I taught at Nova a long time ago and I was well happy to work at two different branches. The commute was about the same for both of them, but going to a different place a couple days a week really helped keep things from getting stale.

I worked two days at a small branch and three days at a great big one. Loved it.

Thanks Gypsy. Yeah, that's true, it'll make things a little less monotonous... hopefully. Also, I suppose if I don't like my manager at one location maybe the other one won't be as bad. Or they could both be puppy-blood drinkers. Here's to praying that doesn't happen.

Basically.

You aren't going to be hanging out in these places. There's nothing to do there. Basically- take train there, work, take train back. Buy a DS or PSP to keep sane.
