Does anyone know anything about this school - Santa Laurensia. It is a Private School located at Alam Sutera (a housing area for rich people near Jakarta).

As a Certified Teacher, it would be good to know what the general conditions are at the school, and other details (salary and housing).

Thank you for any information you may have.

I work for SL and have found the school to be a good employer. It is run by a Catholic foundation but employs people of other religions and similarly the students are from a variety of backgrounds. If you're a table-thumping atheist, however, the place might not be to your taste.

Salary and housing are good and the normal working week is Mon-Fri 0715-1530, so plenty of free time. Classes are smaller than usual by Indonesian school standards but much larger than in your average language school at 25-36 kids per class.

I enjoy my work and don't have any problems getting up on Monday morning to face another week - and in my book that counts for a heck of a lot. PM me for any further details.

Yes. The lack of a/c in classrooms is a major bone of contention for yours truly. Fortunately the teachers' rooms are suitably equipped...

Do the classrooms have ceiling fans, at least, to keep the air at a reasonable cool level?

Working in hot/humid conditions is counter productive, because the students become lethargic and unattentive, and the teachers also feel uncomfortable.

Ghost has worked in many countries, most of them with tropical conditions (Honduras, Costa Rica, Dom. Rep.), and as a minimum there was always at least a fan in the classoom. It would be very surprising if this were not the case at Santa Laurensia school.

It depends where you go, and the resources. In relation to the above quote (suggesting that in Asia teachers have to suffer without air conditioning) this is not the case, at least in the school one teaches at, at the moment. In this school (Taichung, Taiwan) there is air conditioning in every classoom and resource room, and so efficient is the system, that some students (Taiwanese) complain of being 'cold.'

But that is also a cultural thing, because in Taiwan, as soon as the temperature dips below around 25 degrees centigrade, the people (Taiwanese) start wearing coats and jackets!

I don't think you really get TP's wit ! Try to read into the "literal" meaning. This is not meant to go over anyone's head. Good one Patrick. Mike and I both totally concur.

So, there's two ghosts? So which one wants a job, you or the other one? Or are you planning on coming here together?

Cool
