Gonna do some CD shopping; anyone got any recommendations? I usually listen to African music (plus a lotta rock steady). I also wouldn't say no to some mellow electronica, like Royksopp, Mymy or Supreme Beings of Leisure...

If you haven't already, you should check out Electlyric from bonobos. Just right for laid-back summer days. Here's a review. Plus, I think they're from Osaka.

African, huh? Have you ever listened to Papa Wemba? Also, completely different genres here, but I've always enjoyed Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and since I'm from Edmonton, Canada, a local group -- Juba released some really nice African-style vocal music.

Funny you should mention Papa Wemba; I just tracked down one of his CD's for a friend of mine (she heard a song from him in a short film). I have his two-disc "best of", but I was eyeing a two disc pack from him at Tower Records yesterday that included Foridoles (which I remember reading good reviews for) and Pole Position (no idea) all for the low price of...two CD's! Rolling Eyes What's the point?!

Anyway, do you recommend either one? I ordered Emotion for my friend by the way, useta have it back home. It's very, sorta, OK.

Regarding electronic music, some decent fairly recent releases are,
Amon Tobin- Foley Room
Dextro- Consequence Music

No idea about African music but if you listen to Late Junction on BBC radio 3, they play a fair amount of that. You can listen to the previous day's show at any time. Some of the music they play is a bit shot away but often some great musical pathways can be found.

Unfortunately, I really can't advise which album you should get -- I'm not THAT familiar with his discography -- other than having a number of songs of his in my standard iPod mix...

You should be able to get some online clips and mp3 samples to help you decide though...
