| It's very rare for an HCT teacher to be fired. |
I do my job well and don't want to be hassled by people who are power hungry or insecure or just plain obnoxious or have personality issues. The country sounds pretty incredible.
Yes, the country is amazing - lots to do. You've probably made the right decision. Having worked at HCT, I found it to be OK. Lots of bureacracy but most of the people are fine. I also decided against U of Q - didn't want to have to deal with someone I worked with years ago who ruined another teacher's career. Never met anyone like that at HCT. Yes there are a lot of ambitious agressive types but you just need to steer clear.
Good luck. I think you'll love working in the UAE. |

| Good to hear that HCT does not have a fire to hire policy like the other place I applied to. This policy really bugged me and it was the deciding factor in my rejection. I read that HCT has it troubles, 'nutters' and problem people, but I'll keep an open mind and follow the advice to 'steer clear'. Can anyone give me any info on rock climbing? I've heard there are some rock climbing clubs. I've been climbing for about 15 years - Utah, Washington, Colorado and would like to know what's on offer in the UAE. Is there any weekend work or are are we free to folllow our own inclinations? If anyone can give me info on rock climbing or mountain climbing, I'd sure appreciate it. |

Please let us know if you ever find a place in the Gulf where this isn't true to varying extents.
Teaching in the Gulf is a matter of finding the place that fits your definition of 'the lesser of the evils.' Once one accepts that fact, one can relax and not always be hyperventilating about the flaws of those that you work with.

No, actually what that tells you is that HCT was smart enough to get rid of an ineffective manager and even got him to take his useless minions...
So, your post is actually an example of their doing something right.

It is a shame that you have posted so much useless garbage here that no one can believe anything you post now. If I was a betting woman, I would put money that you sucked this whole story out of your thumb... or whatever.
