Is it hard to find short-term teaching jobs in Thailand -- like 6 or 8 months or less? But without breaking a contract -- I wouldn't want to do it that way.
Thanks .... Mep |

^ Hi mep3
It's possible but you VERY likely won't get a work permit.
The process has become more complicated recently.
In light of the increased visa restrictions,
just be sure to pick up a 60 Day Tourist Visa
from your nearest Thai consulate before you depart.
You'll need to do a border-run to stay for 6 to 8 months,
but it's a breeze; there are bus companies that
specialise in that, and many people do it. |

What you're talking about is often called a "backpacker English teachign job". In Thailand, AFAIK, you can get a job like that that will earn you a TEFL in addition to a (very very low) salary.
You may find, however, that you have better luck and more pay doing a 3-month "backpacker" gig in Viet Nam. |

There are actually a LOT of people here working this way and very few of them would qualify as "backpackers".
A good friend of mine, working only 16 hours a week, is earning more than other friends in 45-hour-per-week jobs!
The circumstances for work permits are difficult these days, but lots of schools have short-term contracts with businesses and schools (often only semester by semester) - and thus need good quality people. |
