I am over 35, but just. I have never had a problem with my age, in fact when I was in my 20s and teaching, it was probably a hindrance more than a help.

...armed with a liberal supply of moisturizer I have been able to pose as a 30 year-old for many years.

I'm in my 40s and still going strong. Here in Costa Rica, some English teachers are retirees from the U.S. So English teachers range in age from 20 to 85!

And I am not joking. One of the best Business English teachers here used to be a guy in his 80s--until he passed away. His name was Dallas Grover. God rest his soul.

Assuming that most of the people posting on this thread have also been members of Dave's for a while, I'm going to take a chance with the thread and ask if anybody has heard news of Johnslat? The last post by John Hall seemed so poignant, so I was wondering about old forum members... If any mods are reading - don't worry! You should know by now that I'm no troll or flamer, and my musing is only wistful...

Last I heard from Johnslat, he was back in the States; Montana, I think?

I miss him too.

they can have them, as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah Kent, because they won't be hiring you. Laughing

Anyways Kent, I hope to have a drink with you in Bangkok again sometime.

Is650 mentioned that it depends on the school and I would say that it also very much depends on the country.

It also may depend what kind of work you are looking for. I am hoping that universities would not discriminate based on age but in Korea some do.

I think that it is more likely for a language school to want a young face, especially in certain Asian countries. I doubt that European schools really prefer young teachers.

I think that most of the people who post here are long term TEFLers so you are going to see more people with a few more years under their belt. In general though, most of the jobs are crap language school jobs and these type of places are dominated by 20 something teachers.

If you go to the Korean Discussion forums you can find plenty of 20 somethings but Korea is laregly dominated by 20 year olds looking to pay off loans or people looking for a one year adventure.

Same in Japan. Some do. Often, but not always, you will see an upper age limit of 35 here. Older than that, and you have to be paid more.
