For those of you who currently live in Quito, this should come as no surprise. For those of you who are preparing to move to Quito (like me, who will be moving there in August), here's some good news. Mercer HR, a consultant group from the UK, prepared their annual report for cost of living in 143 cities for expat staff. The report analyzes such things as housing, transportation, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment. Moscow was #1, that is, the most expensive, but Quito was ranked 141st. Asuncion (Paraguay) was the cheapest city for the 5th year in a row. If you're interested, you can do a Google search (Mercer HR expat report). So Quito here I come.... |

I'll search for it! BUt I'm wondering if the study compares direct, dollar for dollar costs, or if it takes local earnings into account. Because while I love living in Quito, and it isn't absurdly expensive, neither are salaries absurdly high, if you know what I'm saying...
Slds,

I'm pretty sure Mercer compares dollar for dollar earnings as a guide for expat workers. I don't think they take into account what the locals earn.
Ecuador also does really, really well on www.transparency.org 's corruption index. Out of 142 countries, it comes way down the list. 2nd last |
