Hi all,
Um, I potentially have an interview coming up on Skype. I have the microphone all rigged up, ready to go, but the thing is: the interviewer wants my 'Skype number'.

What is the Skype number? Is it just your landline? Are you given one when you join Skype, because I haven't seen it.

Please help Smile

Some people pay to have a skype number so that they can be contacted by people using a normal phone. If you don't have one you can't give the interviewer one. Your normal skype address should be fine - may even be what they meant to ask for.

Good luck with the interview.

They are probably asking for your Skype user name.

yeah probably because if they wanted your number then what would be the point of using skype? It would cost them to call you on the number but it is free if you both have it and exchange user names.

Your potential employer sounds cheap to me. How much could it cost them to call your home tel. number? Maybe I am just old-fashioned, but it doesn't sound very classy. Hopefully they can afford to pay on time too.

It might not be because they're cheap. It's quite easy to conference on skype, things can be shared on the internet, and the chat box can be used to clear up language/spelling issues.

I agree with Gordon in the respect that they are trying to save money. That may or may not make them cheapskates. If this is a relatively small school, they may not have the budget to come visit you, so having a phone interview is the next best thing but only if there is video used, and hence the use of Skype or similar program. To use Skype just for the audio is pretty cheap, yes, and I wouldn't even dream of using such a system to type my interview Q and A!

Hi guys, just want to clear this up that they want to see my face, so they would be using skype for a video conference. Berlitz actually wanted me to do skype, but I got them to interview me by phone, because because they offered an interview, I had never even heard of skype.

The last thing I need is, five minutes before the interview, to have the microphone stop working, the webcam go bust, etc, etc. Interviews are stressful enough as it is.
