I'd like some feedback on the possibility of an American finding a job teaching business English. I have an MBA and business experience, a master's in German, a CELTA and 4 years' teaching experience, plus additional certification in Business English. I have a German driver's license, which apparently does not expire.

I know it's harder for a non-EU citizen to find a job, but I also know that there is a question of need, and that it depends on where you are. Some cities/towns are better-supplied with legal-to-work native English speakers than others. Some schools may be willing to work with a teacher who has good credentials, even if it means more paperwork. I'm not looking to retire in Germany, just work for a couple of years in a country where I already speak the language and where, judging from the posts on Dave's and other boards, there is an ongoing need for business English teachers.

hmmmm...no replies so far...

I'm going to be in Germany for a couple of weeks in June, and plan to just show up at several language schools with copies of CV and supporting documents in hand, to test the waters and get an idea of what the schools are like. I have a job in the States at a small college for 2007-2008 so am not desperate. Will post my results here when I get back.

Germany's recently tightened the rules regarding non-EU citizens. I'll be interested to hear what you find, but I think it'll be a hard row to how.

Update on my (somewhat casual) search for a Business English job:

I was in Europe for 3 weeks, just got back to the States, and while in Paris, 2 days before coming back, got an e-mail from a language school in Magdeburg asking if I was still interested, as there was an opening. I'd applied to them a year or so ago.

Unfortunately--or fortunately, depending on how one looks at it--I've already committed to a second year at my community college in the U.S.
But it was nice to be contacted.
