i am an american and i am interested in japan. i live in north carolina in the united states. the problem is that all the interview locations here are either in new york or l.a.. i will be in australia in nov/dec/jan. are their any schools that can hire americans there around that time? or is there any place closer to north carolina where i could interview for a job that wouldnt require me to drive eight hours? thanks

The few places that come to the USA can't possibly service all areas of such a vast country. Be happy that they come at all.

Show some commitment to wanting the job, and make the drive or hop a train/plane. Impress them with that alone.

You might want to check out the big 4 eikaiwa (language school) websites. - Nova (if you re game !) AEON; ECC; Geos. for when they are holding interviews in Australia. They do that a few times a year I believe. Interac also interviews in Aust. though they are not an eikaiwa.

Again with the defeatist attitude. You realize that there are only about a dozen places that will either come to the USA or make phone interviews, will sponsor visas, and aren't unreliable, don't you?

Pass on a place just because it is a mere 8-hour drive away, and you have effectively cut your chances by 50%.

If you don't go, you have zero chance of getting hired. That's a fact.
If you do go, you have a chance. Make the most of it.

sorry...my job is trying to kill me.....(but I go home for a month in two weeks!).
I guess you are right, the job we got over the phone wasn't all we hoped it would be...but in my defense, we were going to have to take a $400 plane ride for an interview that wasnt a 100% hire...we got what we could and hey, at least we are in japan.
But an 8 hour drive really is nothing....

1) Nothing in life, especially interviews, is sure.

2) You could easily have made up the $400 in your first paycheck.
