|
|
Hi,
I need to get a certified copy of my Australian passport ID page to send back to Australia. I know the Australian Consular Office can do it for a (in my opinion, unreasonable) fee (3000yen), and to be honest I'm tight wad who'll look for anyway around that kind of thing.
If anyone knows if there is another way to get documents certified in Japan that will be valid in Australia then please let me know.
In the meantime I'll go back to counting my pennies.
Thanks! |

I would consider 3000 reasonable. To do it in reverse, getting documents certified in Australia that satisfy Japanese departments (by a Notary Public), you're looking at AU$70+.
If it were me, when you weigh it up against time and other faffing about, I think in the long run the Consulate would be the best choice. |

Yow, I thought I'd have to end up paying the 3000yen, but thought I'd give it a red-hot go to avoid it.
I still think it's an excessive amount. It's an Australian document which I need copied for Australian purposes by someone at the Australian consulate. All they need to do it photocopy it, stamp it and sign it.
Thanks for your advice! I'll just get my wallet. |

Boy, did you get ripped. The JP down the road did it for free in fact I didn't think they were allowed to charge a fee.
Outside of Australia, yes you are at the mercy of the gougers at the consulate. |

Nah, this one couldn't be a JP. It had to be a Notary Public which is legal talk for special lawyer who can fist you for a service. |
