This is typical, expect an 8000 rmb offer for 40 hours + and weekend activities and English corners if you were in Beijing. So 10,000 with housing is a better deal than I would get.
That would be with a Masters Degree in Education and TESOL.
Anything less subtact this amount from the 8000.
You must ask these questions, do you need to stay there the whole day?
Will you teach or cover for other teachers often during the day?
Can you go eat lunch and conduct personal business (if needed) during this time.
Many questions need to be asked here.
One trick schools like to pull, they give you the 20 hours teaching time and then another 20 hours office time. They will tell you that the office hours are just sitting and prep time (non-teaching periods)
Later, you will find out you're covering for other teachers, meeting parents, doing fun raising, English Corners, ect.
They are too cheap to hire additional teachers and will claim that you only need to fill in for the teacher shortage for a short period of time. They will also tell you that they are looking for a new teachers (a lie) and that you are already in the office anyway. Your hours can shoot up past 30 a week and that is actual classroom teaching hours.
You will find out later that they are too cheap to hire new teachers or contract out for part timers so the teacher shortage scam will last during your whole contract period.
You might also find out later that the budget requires 10 teachers but they are getting by with only 6 on a continuous basis. (Where is the money going)?
You will also notice the manager driving around in a new BMW or one for his mistress after you been working 30+ hours for the last 5 months.
Therefore, ASK many questions about EXACTLY what is considered an office hour and if you must work over 20 hours teaching will you get paid an overtime rate or is this considered part of your office hour and fixed salary. |
