Sorry to ask about this but I have checked all the old threads and cannot find the answer to my query. I have single entry Z visa, red book etc. and I want to go to HK for a weekend. Another teacher has informed me that I need an exit visa. I have left the country once before on a single entry visa and was not asked for an exit visa. My green and red books were not taken from me. Do I need to contact my PSB? Do I need an exit visa? Or will my books be taken from me when I cross the border?
Thanks. |

You don't need an exit visa, but you will need a visa to get back in. See your FAO about getting a double-entry visa. My books were taken away when I left on a single entry visa. |

You said you wanted to make a weekend trip to HK - do I infer correctly that you want to return to your current job?
If that's so, you must know that your visa expires on the day you exit. While HK is under Chinese soverei9gnty, it's a separate territory akin to a foreign country. You won't be allowed to return unless you obtain a new visa.
Thus, you will have to ask the PSB to issue you with a re-entry permit! It usually takes several weeks to issue (or so I was rather reliably informed).
The cost is minimal, but planning is everything! |

I am aware that I need a visa to get back in to the mainland. I had previously asked my school about a double or multiple entry visa but, as they don't like me to travel, they were less than helpful. I was thinking about getting a mulitple entry visa in HK. I just wasn't sure if I could leave without an exit visa, as that is what I was advised.
Thank you for your help! |

If you leave on a single entry visa, AND your books get taken away, this means your school will have to organise new ones. Have they thought about this? With a canceled Z visa, I think all you could pick up is tourist visa in Hong Kong. Anyway, Roger and others do this trip frequently, so they should know. Get a re-entry permit/double entry visa where you are now!! |

I think that the school thought they would just put me off going to HK! But I will speak to them again and get this sorted here.
Thank you both. |

you can leave the county fine.
But, if you are planning to return to the job, then before you leave, get the school to organise a re-entry visa inthe passort - this means that the immigration people on exit will not take away your green ook, becasue you have proof inthe passort that you are coming back.
it is really easy, all the school has to do is ask the local PSB |
