The HKG Vocational Training Council did some interviewing in Toronto, Vancouver and (I believe) Australia back in the spring for positions starting in August. Did anyone here actually get hired? I was interviewed but didn't hear anything one way or the other, and am just wondering if it's the usual Chinese thing of leaving things until the last minute.

Don't wish to dash your hopes but from my experience with the Hong Kong way of handling post-interviews, they'll usually tell you, "Yes" within a day or two of the interview.
If it's, "No" they won't bother telling you.

Basically if you don't hear back, you're not wanted.

saying that, the VTC might be the exception.

I have been appointed to work with the VTC.I am Australian;the representative in Oz was very efficient/prompt to inform me with the hiring process.When I was selected they informed clearly and concisely.You are in Canada right? you might want to contact your Canadian representative to find out whether your application has been sucessfull or not,it won't hurt if you ask.

So far,I have found all parties involved in the organisation and pre-employment process to be very co-operative and transparent.I am curious to know why they have not responded to you yet.It does not exactly mean you were unsucessfull.

Why are you enquiring about the VTC? I posted a question sometime ago about the organisation and made an orthographic error in the posting that I never bothered with correcting; all you were able to do in reply to my posting is criticize the error.Maybe you are hypercrictical.

To all: The people I dealt with -- the local (YVR) contact and the interviewers -- were at all times courteous and professional, and I had the impression VTC is probably a good organization to work for. The only quibble I had -- and this might be the reason why they didn't pursue my application -- was with the proposed shared accommodation.

i happen to work at VTC and have heard a lot about this net scheme. if you're hired... well... you will find that teaching here is very different than teaching in primary or secondary school. vtc is like a college in the states... you'll be teaching diploma or higher diploma students business communications. i heard from my boss that the NET roles will be more on organizing activities as their non-teaching duties... to me, they just want some 'blonde' figures around the campus.

you'll all be living at the quarter in Chai Wan, Hong Kong. there are over 11 campuses and you will be allocated to the campuses by lucky draw. if you happen to work at the chai wan campus, congrads as it's just 1 min walking distance from the quarter. however, if you're allocated to other campuses like Tsing Yi or Tuen Mun, it'll perhaps take you nearly 2 hours to get their and it'll also mean a salary deduction due to the tranvelling expense.

if you'd like more info on working at vtc, pls ask me as i've been stuck at this bloody place for 4 years...

Now that bubblebubble mentions it, I do recall the interviewers mentioning the possibility of having to live at some distance from the school.
All in all, it looks like I dodged a bullet on this one.

yes, living so far away is a bit off putting but it's also ordinary in hong kong. some students and teachers live very far away from school and take up to 4 hr travelling to and from the campus. working at Chai Wan campus doesn't necessary mean hitting the jackpot, honestly.
