Norman
If you take it to court the University can refuse to release you from your visa which means you cannot leave the country, you will be homeless and not have a salry to support yourself. I would fight a different battle and move on - you are in a no-win situation as the the government are supporting the university to provide the program. You might find yourself either homeless or in jail, be careful. |

WD40... I think all the ADU teachers are on tourist visas now... very short term contracts... 3-6 months...
Total cowboy operation... I would just get out and chalk it up to experience...

| A colleague of mine has been working for ADU for the last two months and he praises it - good accommodation, decent manager for the summer program, good resources just a rocky start. |

I've just spent two months there and have to agree. So much so that I've signed up for another couple of months. |

| This is an old thread, but I've been offered a contract and am dubius about taking the position now. Norman42, I would love to know what happened in the end with your situation. This is my first ESL job, although I've taught at the Univeristy level in the US for many years. My fanancial position is such that I cannot afford to get stuck someplace. Did they ever pay you? Did they pay for your return flight? Thanks to anyone who knows anything about ABU. |

My advice is look somewhere else and if you are really desperate, take it and make sure you have a valid credit card just in case!
Around here, ADU is the most infected place! |

If you have been teaching university level in the US for many years, that presumes that you probably also have an MA... yes? Or did you teach something else other than ESL?
Did you apply to some of the more legitimate universities? HCT, ZU, UAEU, AUS? If not, do it ASAP and get a decent job where you will always be paid on time with good benefits.

Thanks for the feedback. I do have an MA, a teacher certification, and a CELTA. Taught composition and literature at UT San Antonio. Just starting the ESL career, so thanks for the leads. I thought something was "off" at ABU.
