Have any of you become aware of how dodgy higher education has become, or has it always been this way ?
I know of a Canadian (two "Canadian" high schools) , two Aussie, one American, three Scottish universities that are for the most part selling degrees to Chinese.Surely others have noticed !I've only been in this ESL/ELT circus for 15 years...Is it only found in China ?

And if I include private language schools with connections to so-called legit colleges and universities the number goes to about 20-30

Are you sure that the colleges are in some way involved?

I know a place in London where you can buy a "Harvard" degree, but am not sure that Harvard is in any way complicit...

Best,

Justin

I gave the info to a journalist who was doing a cover story on the wholesale of Canadian education in China, so I had to submit a wee bit more than innuendo. By the way, it also included a UK based government agency.

Dinna fash laddie. It's been going on since Omar Khayyam.

The bitter truth is they either learn or they don't. What do we really have to do with it at the end of the day?

I teach at an overseas Ontario school. The students graduate with the exact same diploma as Ontario students. The students at our school recently wrote the Ontario Literacy Test and had a pass rate of 89%. The pass rate in Ontario is about 85%. The students write the test and it's sent back to Ontario for grading.

Speaking only for my school, I find nothing wrong with it. The A-Levels and South Audtralian Matriculation students conistently rank high.
