Hellow,
My understanding is that you can't get a visitor's visa (vv) to Taiwan from Mainland China -- you have to go through Hong Kong or Macau or some other place. Does it work the same way for residents of Taiwan who want to visit mainland China? Can't get the vv in Taiwan and have to get it somewhere else?

Why would you need a visitors visa to enter TW? Citizens from a half a dozen countries can get a landing visa. |

a landing visa doesn't give you enough time to go through the necessary paperwork to get a resident visa....coming into Taiwan on a landing visa practically guarantees that you will have to make a visa run to Hong Kong |

mep3, Yes, that is the case. You will need to get your visa to visit China somewhere else. |

Technically speaking a landing visa is not a visa, but more like a temporary entry permit. It cannot be extended or changed into another type of visa. If you are coming to Taiwan for any reason other than a short visit you should apply for a visitor's visa in advance.
As for visas to China it is possible to get them in Taiwan. You can go through almost any travel agent. However, the travel agent will need to send your passport to Hong Kong for processing and the procedure may take around ten days. |

Good info. So if I want to visit Taiwan from China for a Short time -- like 8 or 9 days? -- can I get a landing visa from the mainland rather than having to go to Macau or HK? Can you only get them in certain cities like Beijing, or can u get them lots of places?
That would be very useful to me. I'd maybe like to try to come to Taiwan for some uni job interviews next year, for jobs for the following year. We have some holidays, one in the first week in May, for example. But I wouldn't have enough time to go to Macau for a vv first. Especially being in the North. It would be a lot more expensive that way too.
(I guess than answers Miyazaki's question
