Hello everyone.
I apologize in advance if I am revisiting an old subject from this forum, but I think I have a bit of a unique situation and need some advice.
I have a BA in Linguistics and am working on my MEd in Teaching Second Languages so I am fairly confident in terms of getting a NET job when I apply. However, my boyfriend is a French Canadian who is fluent (though slightly accented!) in English. He has done a diploma in Canada, but all his courses were taught in French and is completing his degree by distance from Canada, with the last two years of courses taught in English.
I realize that he is not eligible to apply for the NET program until he has completed his degree, but we are wondering what his chances will be to get a job with another school or company. Is it possible for him to work for a tutoring company or kindergarten with a diploma? We have been teaching in South Korea for five years, so experience is not a problem, but I'm wondering if working/teaching visas can be issued in Hong Kong to people without degrees. Also, will they issue a visa if his courses were done in French? Any idea what sort of hourly wage or salary he could expect in a non-NET job?
Any advice/experience with this would be much appreciated. I will be applying sometime in the near future for a NET position and if I get accepted and find a decent job, we would love to move soon, but we need to be assured that he can find work. |
