My earnings vary, this next 2 months I will earn 16,00 for 19 hours but that could go up because we are setting up daytime classes for the kids.
I meet quite a number of FTs who are now working for companies or have started their own businesses with varying degrees of success.

So you freelance completely and earn that high of an income?

Is it still true for foreigners to set up a business, part of it must be Chinese owned?

Naturegirl, my situation is not that unusual. Other people are earning a lot more than me in this town. I could earn a lot more but I am teaching at a nice level, for me and I don't have to accept classes I won't enjoy.

I just came back from a company, the first class, a sort of an introduction/demo class but paid.

Now if one of the training centres that I work for had organized it, it would be a free demo lots uf misunderstandings about how many students, what they want etc. While they are working out the financial part ,they leave the FT in the dark about who and what they will be teaching.

This was a breeze, 3 students. low level English which I knew beforehand, I put togther a lesson plan aimed at their level of English and was right on the ball. I gave the boss an outline of our objectives and what we need to do to achieve them .
I have the boss onside, the student's trust and I am really excited about getting them to the level that they need to deal with foreign clients.

Also the boss's British bulldog "puppy" took a shine to my left leg.

I do the training centres, the private classes, the high schools that's what I do and it suits me.

I earn $ 34.76 (less tax of 4.7%) per utterance . Now, if I actually utter something deemed important it goes up to $49.13, and profound verbiage $96.45 per complete clause. If I can speak something profound for the entirety of the 50 minute class I get $ 347.66, but then I have to show proof of ID. So,on average I make about 3 cents a week, and tax is not necessary. Wink
P.SS. On average I save 2cents.

yeah, i think the question is how much do you spend per month rather than how much do you save since all our incomes vary.

i've been enrolled in school and living off of savings since early april, so i've been watching my money closely. (of course enrolling in school, especially at overpriced sichuan university, was the first mistake in my money management.)

my rent is 500/month and outside of that i've been living very easily on 2000/month, if we don't include unforeseen major expenses. i'm trying to cut that down to 1200/month currently, and ultimately i'd like to live off of 1000/month or less, not including rent, the longer to live off my savings with.

unfortunately the month is barely at its halfway point and i've already spent 700 of this month's allotted 1200! grr. i have a bus pass, don't shop for clothes or stuff or generally eat at western restaurants, drink maybe once a month. my downfalls seem to be late-night taxis, fruit (oddly enough; i honestly think this is a significant portion of my monthly budget), generally being too lazy to cook and often not splitting the bill with others. thirty rmb/day limit seemed like a reasonable goal for my lifestyle, but then every day something seems to come up: my phone runs out of money (there's 100); the water bill needs to be paid (there's 50); somebody wants to go out to dinner (there's another 40); my camera runs out of batteries (there's another 40); i'm so depressed that i can't keep my budget that i buy two drinks at the bar (another 40) .... Wink
