Often longevity at a company leads to promotion, that is just the way it is. A company is obviously looking to promote those that looks stable and willing to stick around for a significant time, so that does lead to inappropriate people being promoted. But there are also a lot of good educators out there without formal qualifications, but who have put the effort in over the years and have 'self'-educated themselves.

I have met a lot of excellent 'unqualified' teachers and equal amount of teachers who are stuck in Taiwan because they can't hack it elsewhere. You can't tar everyone with the same brush.

You are absolutely right and I know that some people can be absolutely fantastic teachers without any formal background.

However, in a huge Company, with hundreds of teachers and thousands of students, you would think it would be important to them to have SOMEONE with a real educational background in a position to influence things.

I mean think about the above as it relates to being back home in a Western country. Would ANY educational organization NOT have someone with a strong educational background in the Head Office? To the contrary, they would likely have a number of people with a Master's in Education.

HESS doesn't have anyone with a real educational background, as far as I'm aware. In fact, being that Mr. Andrew Tiffany hasn't posted on this thread, this must be true. He has a habit of only contributing when there is a way to promote HESS in a positive way rather than responding to a serious questioning of HESS policy like this one.

This is faulty reasoning. The 2nd sentence does nothing to prove that the 1st sentence is true or not. You're just stating your opinion as fact.

example: Coca Cola has cocaine in it, as far as I'm aware. In fact, being that the head of Coca-Cola hasn't posted on this thread, this must be true.

If you have some basis, or proof of your statement, thats great, otherwise, try not to make broad, sweeping generalizations, and call them facts. It's not fair to potential new readers/posters.

In your extensive membership on the board (since June 07, just passed your 1 month, congrats!!!) I can only assume, based on your statement about him, that you've become an Andrew Tiffany expert. That you have gone back and read all of the posts he's made in the year he's been on the forum, to fully understand his habits?

Does a public forum seem like the best place for someone in middle-management to start discussing policy?

If you have questions, and you want the answers from Andrew Tiffany directly, why dont you PM him, or email him directly?

Or why not even just e-mail someone at HESS and see if you can get someone there to just start discussing policy with you? I'm sure you'll get really far, seeing that you're not even employed by them.

I mean why wouldn't they want to get into a long, drawn-out discussion about their policies with a complete stranger who already has a negative view of them?
