Hi,
Shoot me down for being a newbie with a problem. I was wondering if anyone here could help me out or offer advice. Brits would probably be the best at this, as they have to go through a similar procedure.
Heres my story...
At University this year a friend and I were drinking alcohol on a train- a certain train on which alcohol is prohibited. Yes it was stupid we are idiots etc, although we genuinely did not realise that we were not able to drink there.
I was questioned by the police and I admitted to the crime, I was going to be cautioned, however I made a million nice phone calls explaining that this would serve to derail my career over such a trivial issue. The police agreed and decided to wave the charges.
I received a letter in the post saying that it has been put on record that I admitted to the offence of drinking alcohol in a prohibited zone, yet the decision had been taken for no further action- they said that it would be placed on record.
The enhanced CRB shows up all convictions and cautions, while leaving a space where information could go- is this likely to show up?
As I have to do an enhanced CRB disclosure when applying for work with the larger companies in Japan- is this likely to affect my application at all?

Has some company specifically told you that you have to do this? I've had to go through this in other countries, but never in Japan, nor known anyone here who had to. This may have changed with some companies though.
To answer your question, I'm pretty sure you'd be ok. Did you officially receive a caution? To get the document you need (which takes 40 days and costs a tenner), you have to apply to your local police force anyway, so I'm sure they could confirm whether this will show up or not.
If it did, and you needed it for an employer in Japan - and I'm not convinced both would be true - I think it wouldn't bother many employers, if they were sufficiently impressed by your application and interview. Remember that IF this document is needed, it'll be after they've provisionally offered you the job and I doubt they'd change their minds over something so trivial. |

I mean if your average corporate drone here read that you have a record for being drunk on a train they think "That's how I spend every Saturday night!" |

To the best of my knowledge, there are two kinds of check in the UK, an Advanced CRB check and a Police Records Check. You can't apply for an Advanced CRB check yourself, a recognised body has to do it on your behalf. I don't know if they would issue one to a foreign employer either.
If an employer insists on this measure then try the Police Records Check. That only lists convictions and oficial cautions so you should be in the clear. Also, you can apply for it yourself.
