Does anyone where know I can get a teaching certificate at in Cairo? AUC offers it but they only give it if you have minimum a four-year degree.

International House in Cairo did - and, as far as I know, still do - offer the CTEFLA and DTEFLA courses.

Do you mean a teaching certificate or a TEFL certificate? Those two terms generally mean two different things. Many places around the world offer TEFL certs of varying validity and acceptance.

A teaching certificate normally means that you have completed a 4 year education degree and have been certified to be a teacher in elementary or secondary schools in your area of study (History, elementary education, Social Studies, etc - but not ESL) and it is normally restricted in geographical area. This is obviously what AUC understood you to mean, so naturally their response was that you needed a 4 year degree.

The International Language Institute in Heliopolis, Cairo (an International House affiliated school) runs CELTA's regularly. The next one is in February 2004.
The CELTA is an internationally recognized teaching certification, and with the exchange rates so low, you can't find a better deal than in Egypt. It's one very intensive month, then you're ready to work!
Also, ILI runs IH Certificate programs for teaching young learners' if you're into teaching kids - the next ones in May (I think).
Their e-mail is: [email protected] or check out the International House web-site.
Good Luck!
