Welcome.
Which part of Ireland are you from? The one with best songs or the one with best costumes? |

Actually, I stopped singing the songs and wearing the costumes a long time ago and now reside in a place where a famous philospher once said "God is dead!". Yes, I'm an atheist (tho I did originate from Limerick many moons ago!)

Like you, I'm not much into either the songs or the costumes.
But actually, that little saying of mine is more English than Irish? No? |

Really?
I wonder who is dead by now, God or this famous philosopher?
As far as I know, this famous philosopher is already DEAD and God still alive. It seems the poor philosopher miss-judged God and himself in the same time.

Balzac, what do you mean by atheist?
Do you mean you are an irreligious person, and do no belief in the existence of God, or may be you are a religious but a Buddhist.

Actually, I think the native peoples of South America might disagree with you about Catholics lacking the colonisation gene.
But I, of course, am quite familiar with how outsiders can't resist romanticising the Northern Ireland "situation". |

I think if you're receiving a prescription from your GP, perhaps you should reduce your medication a tad.
Introduction to Logic:
One of the most famous arguments in logic goes as follows.
All men are mortal.
Socrates is a man.
Therefore, Socrates is mortal.
Therefore, any philosopher, be they Socrates or Nietzsche, or whoever who makes statements about anything, whether it's about an apparent god or whatever is going to die BEFORE the idea he/she is enunciating! And since god is the same as an idea, HE/SHE/IT CANNOT DIE!

Again, you seem to have this ability to not understand your own words.
If I am an athiest, which I already stated, then how can I believe in Buddhism which has a god as its head??
Got it now?

As I was born in Ireland and raised in England, I'm not sure where I actually heard it. You may well be right. A search on google and yahoo didn't reveal anything as to the origin by the way.
cheers

Oh, my GP! He is dead a long time ago.

Good Logic! But is missing something.

It seems you are influenced by philosophers like, Ludwig, Freud, Marx, and Friedrich Nietzsche.
Use your reasons not desires or psychological motivations!
Because psychological motivations have nothing to do with whether God exists or not. The evidence must come from other sources.
Lets play the game the other way around:
Is atheism an Idea, a reality, or a wishful thinking? Discuss.

No, I did not get it!
It seems you have the ability to not understand the meaning of 'Atheism'!
It seems you believe in a West Buddhism not an East one!
Although atheists are commonly assumed to be irreligious, some religions, such as Buddhism, have been characterized as atheistic."

007,
I'd appreciate if you'd desist from replying to any more of my comments. I find you irritating in the extreme as you are the kind of person I occasionally meet on these kinds of boards (fortunately!!) who simply wants to play games of one-upmanship. Do us all a favour and grow up!
If you don't want to (or simply don't know how) to engage people in a meaningful way, then please remain silent. As my mother used to say, 'if you can't think of something interesting or polite to say, then don't say anything at all'.
Absolutely ma!
Balzac
P.S. You now have the floor 007 and can say want you want, but rest assured that I won't be replying. |

Balzac,
It seems Atheism is DEAD!
Take an Aspirin and forget about it.
BTW, my grand ma used to say,if you dont like something respect other people's rights to say it
And my mother used to say that your mother doesn't know what she's talking about. |

At least 99% of the posters here fully agree with you Balzac, but he is impervious to anything involving logic or sense. Apparently a sick sad man... who can't take a hint and go away.

If you are not happy with my posts, just close your eyes and ignore them.
Apparently she is a sad woman. which reminded me of the following Irish proverb:
Like an Irish wolf she barks at her own shadow. |

See Balzac... it's a hopeless request to someone who insists on making himself look ignorant... repeatedly...
