Work for little money, put back into society, serve the people, sacrifice, all buzz words and phrases for the Pa--y for the motivation of the workforce. However too redundant.

I can understand doing this in a rural location where the folks truly do have little money and your service is really appreciated in this manner the rewards we as teachers receive are more than financial.

The case with EF is that they are a profit driven franchise ENGLISH TRAINING CENTER, not even a SCHOOL. The people that buy into the franchise are expecting to MAKE MONEY!!!!! therefore in my book to use these catch phrases is a manipulation of the FT who's salary is merely a business expense.

Again I say that we are educated people who have expensive degrees in our pockets and we according to the CHINESE GOVERNMENT should be "Foreign Experts'

Look up the definition of "Expert" and Please for the sake of us all teaching and living in China don't let yourself be taken advantage of.

In the west we view contracts as legally binding documents that usually are not contested. In China contracts can be renegotiated at any time. Are we not in their land and subject to their laws and decrees? Why not do business as the Chinese do as well?

There is a woman in Dalina named Ms. Sha (spellin?) who hired Chinese girls to become girl friends of FTs and used them to cheat the FTs with low paying contract and withholding money scams...not offering that you wife is 'n' cohoots with management..but it does seem out of the norm when a Chinese wife is not pushin for more scratch from hubby...check her bank acct..

You certainly have every right to ask for a pay raise but as this is in excess of the what you agreed upon when you took the job the employer has every right to say no.

This coin has two sides though as you also have every right to say to know to work that they may ask you to do which exceeds what you agreed to do when you signed the contract.

I think that EF offers a lot of advantages over what other schools generally offer in spite of the wage, but ultimately if you feel that the money is not enough then you should certainly find yourself another job.

I don't think that it is right to say that the employer is not paying enough but instead that you are not earning what you need to be earning. Have a look around your area before you give up this job though as you may regret giving up one job unless you have another to walk into.

She only told me this yestersday and this transaction had happened well over a week ago. News travels very slow when it comes to me finding out what really goes on in my wifes life.

I am still puzzling, HP, whether you have a legally-binding contract; if so you should be able to tell your employer what you can, and what not, be expected to do for that amount of money. Working over time comes at a price that's settled in your contract.

Are you legal?

Yep, the contract is legal; I have all the correct paperwork etc. The hours are rather long, this week will be doing at least 60 office hours and that is including my teaching time. But I guess that is due to the holiday period occurring at this time of year

Cheers everybody, just politely asked my wife to leave. I will make sure she is financially taken care of, for the immediate future. Meantime I will continue in my job until the summer vacation is over then consider my next move. Not an easy choice leaving a marriage, but much better than waiting for something worse to happen.

Oh today we had a new Headmaster. The owner of the school had to show of the fact that he had attended Oxford University. Wonderful.

Normally I wouldn't comment on someone's personal life, but since HP has seen fit to make his situation public, I have to say that I'm with TheRock on this one. It sounds like HP was just looking for an excuse to get out of his marriage. The Chinese say that we westerners don't take relationships and marriage seriously enough, and this would seem to be a case in point.
