Hello,

I've just come across an advert for a teaching position at MOD EDIT in St. Petersburg.

They're offering 35,000 rubles (not sure if net or gross) for 100 teaching hours per month. Accomodation is not provided.

I'm just wondering if this is below/on par with/above the average teacher's salary in Piter. Also, how much would a flat near the metro cost per month?

It's probably par for low-level teachers with a year or less of experience. I'd say it's bare subsistence level - no frills and no chance to save money. An apartment will probably subtract 15,000 (or more) from that sum.

I'm not sure of the cost of living in St. Petersburg, but I'm sure that number will allow you to live a basic, no frills, lifestyle.
It should also give you enough money and free time (100 hours is not much) to pursue more lucrative avenues, such as private students.
Airfare included?

AND try to get some sort of document showing you are working in Russia. They let me into the hermitage for the Russian price the first day, the second day the clerk wanted some document I couldn't produce and I had to pay the foreigner rate.

I also got in to see Swan Lake at the Mussorgsky theater for bubkes. I got a seat in the box looking over the flute player's shoulder. I say save up some scratch for mad money and go have a good time.
