I'm looking at this site and it looks interesting. Is there anyone that already took that course/programme? If yes, how is it? Is it legit? Is it worth the investment of time and money?

http://www.bestteflcourse.com/specialProject.shtml

I'd appreciate any feedback about this programme as this would help me in my decision making.

Thanks. Wink

^ Hi Don

I can't give you a first-hand recommendation,

but TEFL International is well known in Thailand

and their boss, Bruce V, is also a member of Dave's.

If you scroll down a little, you'll find this recent thread.

Thanks Kent for the heads up.
Bruce, or anyone in here, could you tell us more about the accomodations which are mentioned? is it a shared room? a hostel? Or a hotel?Apart? If possible, can you or anyone who've taken this course to post pics of the accomodation? I would really appreciate it as I am interested in singing up for this programme.

Thanks a lot.

Don Lorenzo,

Here are two chunks of info about the two projects, as provided by the TEFL Admin:

1. Accommodation:

a. Special Thai Project shared accommodation
b. Special Chiang Mai Project single accommodation

5. TESOL Course

Training hours are from 9AM to 5PM with morning and afternoon coffee break and lunch break. Training days are from Mondays to Fridays.

I was browsing through the bestteflcourse.com site and I found this section which is very informative:

http://alumni.teflintl.com/default.asp?goto=testimonials&pgno=1&preseltefllocation=Thailand,%20Ban%20Phe

A good starter. If anyone has more info, specially the accomodation, please share it with the rest of us which would be truly appreciated.

Thanks.

This morning, someone from that school/institute in Thailand called me and said that they would offer me 22K Bhat while on the website it says 30KBhat. Now, I really do want to come and experience teaching and Thailand in general but the terms that institue are proposing don't seem that attractive anymore. Seems that I'm being ripped off there, isn't it? Confused

But out of curiosity, is 22KBhat enough to live comfortably in Chiang Mai or in Ban Phe?

Is this normal practice to mention one thing on the website and a different figure in person? is that common practice or is that a big red flag that I should perhaps just pass on this "opportunity"?

Any advice on this would be truly appreciated.

Thanks, from a quite confused person. Confused

If I were you --- I'd put these questions directly to Bruce.

Just click on his name in my reply above and send him a PM.

PM stands for private message - it works like a normal e-mail.

The buck stops with Bruce; PM him and clear up your questions.

There may be a fineprint clause, i.e. accept airfare and get 22K

or pay your own airfare and get 30K, etc, etc - I really don't know.

And yes, people get ripped off in different ways all the time here

and in SE Asia in general, because we stick out; we're easy targets,

especially during the first few months - until you learn what costs what.

There's no need to worry about it - it can't be avoided - just be aware of it.
