my friend doesn't have a TEFL, nor does he have a four-year degree. he is almost fluent in spanish, however, and his energy and personality is something to behold (though i know that only counts for so much..). oh yeah, he's a north american native speaker as well.

what countries can he teach in? besides costa rica.

This has been discussed many times, try the search function.

IN general. . . the more experience and qualifications you have, the easier it is to get a job. DOn't forget that connections help as well. Some countries, I believe Mexico, requires a degree in order to get a work permit.

Other places will hire you, though you might not get paid as well. AS for Peru, yes you can get a work visa without a degree. However, work visas in Peru are hard enough to come by for those that have degrees. Try schools and some unis outside of Lima.

Are you writing this about your friend or yourself?

Being fluent in Spanish will help outside the classroom, but not inside. At my uni and school I'm forbidden to speak Spanish in the classroom.

Try also searching on the LA boards. And see the LA job list. HOpe this helps.
