New teachers need to know that health insurance for us is a complete joke. We who work here all hope we don't get sick or injured. The hospitals are terrible. I was two doctors fighting with a nurse and they were using the body of a sick man to emphasize their arguments.
The hospitals are crowded, chaotic and completely disorganized. |

If you are in KSA why are you telling us about health care in Qatar ?
As for KSA I have had heart surgery as well as other more minor treatments. I have no complaints ! |

Hey Scot... this is the same fellow who started a thread about the housing at QU and his big beef was that there were cheap Chinese door knobs. Finally after much digging we learned that they felt that the furniture was cheap and since it is new construction, it is in the normal unfinished state with no landscaping. (in other words, the usual)
Now the medical care is HORRIBLE and the proof was that he saw doctors and nurses in a dispute.
I have to say that the place has certainly drawn a group with very unusual approaches. But their evidence is rarely compelling.

Dear V.S. You speak without knowing what's on the ground. It is the new teachers who need to assess what is going on there. Not some retired ex teacher in the states taking care of old parents. Find a useful hobby.

You may gain some respect here if you ever give new applicants some useful information. We are all waiting.
Learning manners would be nice too, but probably too much to expect. In the meantime, my hobbies are NYFB.

Useful info can be given by current employees of QU re: health insurance.
It only allows us to be treated at the one government hospital, which by all accounts is a very scary place. It is dingy, dirty, very crowded, the bathrooms are indescribable and the wait is excruciating. That being said, we are also allowed to visit clinics - for minor aches and pains - and those are free too, under the current health plan. If you so choose, you can also pay out of pocket and go to Al Ahlia Hospital, the only decent hospital in Doha, private and expensive, but safe, clean and quick.
So, all in all, not a very good picture, as compared to other university plans in the region (i.e. HCT, ZU or UAEU). |

Thanks. Details are what is needed. This sounds comparable to what the smaller private universities offer - basic government coverage in a particular hospital or clinic. They do tend to be grim by our standards with long waits, but that said, I have used them in Kuwait, the UAE, and Oman, and there are some exceptional doctors once you find them. (a fact true everywhere... )
Do you pay a health insurance premium? To use the private clinics and choose hospitals, normally one needs an insurance plan like in the UAE and the teachers pay a monthly premium.
My only employer who gave free coverage to all and any hospital in the country was SQU in Oman.

see V.S. something useful came out of this. Think back on all of the time you have invested on Dave's cafe. You could have earned another M.A. with all of that time. What a hideously boring life you must lead even if it is none of my business.

Don't like it when someone touches that sore spot? When does your walmart supervisor let you off work? I'll call and we can talk about it over a 7 eleven hotdog.
