I guess I should rephrase - I am not married, so I am single by definition, but I am also not "single", and have been in a long-term relationship. He'll be visiting a few times next year.

So, I'm not going to start a relationship in Thailand OR look for anything from a guy, but going for the experience and culture. The thread that mentioned women are unhappy scared me a little...

In areas other than love and relationships, do you find that the women are unhappy? That's what scared me about the above post. Is there stuff other than relationships that ruins it for the women over there?

Thanks!

Basically, just realize that like ather areas in Asia, this is a male domoinated and controlled culture. The people I see htat seem to have the most trouble are the vigillante feminists that come here and get put off because at least, everyone ignores them or in the wort case scenario they suffer backlash from the Western men in one form or another. No one likes those types but in our society because of political correctness they are allowed free reign without reprucussions. My advice is to just put relationships out of your mind (shouldn't be difficult in your situation), and if you've got an attitude of any kind, just keep it in check as if it gets out in the open, you'll find little social concensus in support. Treat others nicely and you'll get the same in return.

Indeed, if relaitonship is not a priority, I would imagine that you will have a great time here. It's easy to make friends and people are easy going. There is little or no racism in this country and the weather is phenomenal. You will be just fine. Good luck.

Thank you, Maximm. That's what I was wondering. Not looking for love, looking for experience. I think I'm gonna have a ball!!!

Having been a single woman living in Thailand and having group of friends the same as me - we were all attractive girls - I can tell you that you are probably not going to find a man in Thailand. We found it continuously disappointing that we were forever overlooked for the Thai girls, even though there was nothing wrong with us and we could actually hold an intelligent conversation. Most of my friends are still there though, so they can't be too bothered by it. We all know why (most) men go to Thailand. Its not to find a western girl.

Very Happy

I'm currently living in a very small city in South Korea but plan to head to Thailand afterwards. No one can speak a word of English in my city and I'm only one of (12) Western teachers in the entire city. (Four hours south of Seoul) So far all the female teachers I've met here have been quite thin/attractive.
I didn't date anyone while I was here simply because of the language barrier. If anything, the Greek engineers have been the boldest with hitting on the Western teachers. But I've had things come quite easily in Asia for me based on my 'looks'. Being 5'10 with the dimensions of a supermodel and blond, most of the Asians here, including my hagwon supervisor are always asking me for tips on 'appearances/clothing' because they try to emulate me. So no, if anything, I've experienced more benefits/attention since being in Korea. My supervisor told me she was giving me a raise, not because of my teaching performance but because I was 'very pretty' Rolling Eyes How you look means 'everything here' which is why they're always looking in the mirror.
In terms of meeting anyone...no way!. Most of the Western men I've met in Korea (and this is my own experience) have either been really strange, (particularly the older ones) alcoholics or the cocky, conceited arrogant types just looking to sleep with as many Asian women as possible.
