|
|
Just to see what comes of it, I put a short cv on two smaller sites & just received this email at my new address.
I'll post this copied email in the post below.
First off, she obviously sent this to a number of applicants, my name isnt Tom & Im already in China (said so in my cv) & its surly a recruiter
What are some of the red flag points you more experienced China FTs can see in the descriptions given that new job seekers should look for ?
Any other tips on reading between lines would be a lot of help too. |

If you post your CV on ANY website, you will automatically get "job offers" through agents, most of whom are freelancers with a decent job at a school.
They just happen to know where posts are advertised for, and where CV's get published. Simple - scan the two, and act decisively. They know because they are English teachers working in the FAO of some public institution. Sometimes they are principals or headmasters.
I got a confirmation of my suspicions from someone at chinatefl. They fully know that illegit recruiters are acting as go-betweens. They are willing to take action against them, but I wonder how they can do anything at all. Unless, of course, they make Chinese schools pay for accessing the lists of CV's as Dave's board does!
This weeds out most unscrupulous opportunists! |

So Rog,
BTW, thanks for All the info you freely give us
Your saying this lady, May have just scanned the job openings boards & wrote up a quick description of jobs she found that she will be able to get the commission from & then.
Went to the CV boards & sent said list of jobs to new postings?
If so, how would one best find out if she in fact represents the schools she has on her list?
Ive a couple replies from what look like true Recruiters, either sending their web sites link or just asking when Im available & to send them an email for info, or from actual school FAOs.
Back to my original Q;
All the jobs listed look OK at first glance,
how does a person new to looking, know what ones should be avoided? |

It's becoming increasingly difficult to avoid such agents because the websites are accessible to all and sundry.
If a school advertises, they will normally use their own FAO to recruit you, so that FAO will reply to your application with no reference to other jobs available.
But illegitimate agents will give you a number of schools to choose from, hoping you go for one of them. Some of these agents are a bit green too - giving away the school's particulars without safeguarding their own interest in the matter. They can't hope to get a cut from the deal! |
