Personally, I've never understood the fascination people have here with foreigners who play guitar. I would say 99% of the gee-tar playin' laowais play at a very low level, belting out a few chords here and there and I've never seen anything that I would quantify as being "good".
I suppose it is the whole stereotype thing.
On the contrary the locals who play in the bars/restaurants/tea house are pretty damn good. Mind you, they are playing covers for the most, but actually, on the whole, I would say their sound is better (vocals aside) than most live acts I've heard back home.
I haven't been too impressed with the live foreign acts I've seen here so far. |

Gotta love the quote from the FT:
(to the students) "Ah, did anyone prepare anything? No?! (laughs). Ah, good, so it'll be a short class then...I still don't know many songs...I was ready today, for today, I prepared an old American song, Chinese song, like the one from the movie"
Does this mean that we are allowed to prepare nothing, aside from gratuitiously promoting our guitar playing talents, finish early, and still get paid? |

Oh my. I finally had time to sit down and watch most of the videos on this thread. But I could not bring myself to watch many of them all the way through.
I suppose it brings new meaning to the old saying: If a few monkeys type a few emails on a few computers for a few minutes, they are bound to get hired.

| A wee bit of clowning around is fine, but it's knowing where to draw the line; and you can't be seen as too tight arsed. |

This same guy could very well be making 8000RMB or more per month as a "Business Motivation Specialist" at a Sino-British/Canadian/American university out in some city's "Special Economic Development Zone".
Pathetic, really pathetic. Were a Chinese learning English, I'd approach every single FT with great caution and suspicion. Telling me how to tune a guitar or "believe in myself" ain't forth a fen of tuition. |
