I didn't do the DELTA there but I did the CELTA there, and I think it's a pretty good school. My course was taught by Jaem (who I would never want to study under again because he passed judgement on students' lifestyles and treated many students disrespectfully when he disapproved of their personal, out-of-school choices) and Bjarne (who was an excellent teacher). The school is great, the location is fabulous, Gloria (who arranged homestays and other logistical stuff) is a very sweet woman, there's a cute bar serving breakfast, lunch and drinks right in the school, and the school has a great resource library (which is kept under lock and key, requiring a EUR 20 refundable deposit). Jenny ([former?] head of teacher training) was a bit bonkers but I understand she's left. |

I did the DELTA there and it was excellent, I highly recommend it. Really improved my teaching, definitely worth it.
Let me know if you have any more questions : ) |

Is Scott Thornbury still involved in the course there? If so, sign up straightaway- the man is a genius. He even got my ex-boss through the DELTA, and he was one of the biggest space cadets I have ever met |

Scott Thornbury isn't directly involved anymore as a DELTA tutor but drops in for the odd session
However you can feel his influence and the other tutors are on the same wavelength
Still got a great reputation and well deserved too |

I did DELTA at IH Barcelona and thought it was a great course. I learned a ton, though I already had nearly 20 years teaching experience...
There were a few minor aspects of it I have to say I wasn't that convinced about, but that might have been due to a clash with my preconceived ideas, some of which I was a bit reluctant to relinquish... (and still think were correct !!!
My tutors were Dave and Neil, and they certainly knew their stuff... There was a nice contrast of styles and personalities there.
As I understand it, btw, Jaem has now left (say no more ,-) and Jenny has too. I met the guy who has taken over (Sam) and he seemed a nice sort of bloke...
I don't know Bjarne...
(I live and work in Barcelona which is why I hear things about IH...) |

Hi. I'm new to the board. I am looking at doing either a DELTA or TEFL Management course in either IH-Seville or IH-Barcelona. Has anybody had any experience with this? A search on this topic gave me relies that were a couple of years old. Any replies to these programs and any experiences would be welcome.

I'd say first of all you need to make up your mind whether you want to do DELTA or Management !
Personally, if you're thinking about management, I'd be tempted to do DELTA first anyway, though if you really want to get into management and out of teaching, maybe an ELT management course directly is the shortcut.
Not sure what IH Seville offer, but IH Barcelona offer the IDLTM course, partly F2F, partly online, which I understand is an excellent course, but tough. They also have two much shorter, one-week F2F courses for DoS and Teacher Trainers that might be the place to start (like, do you actually WANT all the headaches a DoS has to deal with ?!)
Don't have any direct experience of those courses (tho' I did do DELTA at IH BCN) but know people that have done them: they seemed pretty happy. |
