Have anyone come across with such things during your entire stay in KSA??
Unfortunately, I did come across Flying carpets only in my dreams.
BUT, for Genie (in Islam is called Djinni or Jinni, and is ceated from subtle fire), I have witnessed a real incident (I am not joking), where a Sheikh 'extracted or removed' a Djinni from a man who was believed to be possessed by a Djinni! An it took the Sheikh more than three hours to get the Djinni out from that man. And I have heard that the Djinni should be 'removed' from the fingers of the hand or feet of a person.
I know this story might look like some kind of 'Fiction Film of Hitchkook' to most of you, but the majority of Muslims, Jews and some sect of Christians believe in Djinni (bad demons). And the Djinni was mentioned in the Quran and Hebrew Bible..
BTW, Susan, does the Japanese people believe in Djinni (Demon) or not? And what is called in Japanese?

What do you mean by 'International Services'?
Does it have anything related to the 'Sociology' of foreign culture?

why do teachers do this, i.e., jump from country to country every couple of years or so, when they are happy at their job?
you say you are happy in japan, and that you like the job (even though you only mention positive things about the living arrangement, nothing about the job per se). so if you are happy, and you actually enjoy the teaching AND the living there, why can't you stay there and keep working? seems like some teachers get into teaching not primarily to teach, but to experience new cultures, foods, and languages every couple to few years. nothing wrong with that necessarily, but there IS something to be said about someone working in the same place for a long long time (assuming they like their job, which you do).
btw, i doubt you have travelled the breadth and depth of japan, and have sampled all the foods and dialects there. i suspect you have only been to a few key touristic cities/towns/sites, and have not seen the majority of the country. i apologize if i am wrong about that. there are thousands of tiny villages in japan, some so remote that they have their own subcultures and traditions.
perhaps the pay is better in SA? but be forewarned, unless it is significantly better (at least 1.5 times), you are going to regret coming out here!
hmmmm
I dont know why I should be looking for better pay in KSA??? Dont you think one could make 10 times of this teaching salary anywhere without teaching??
I wouldnt mind helping people anywhere even on volunteer basis. But if one`s effort/ work is appreciated with monetary reward, who wouldnt feel good??
Money doesn`t make me do things.
Any of you having better lives in KSA compared to life backhome?
Or are you guys moles working as teachers??
The majority of EFL teachers in Saudi are there for the money, and that is all. Some saving for retirement, some because there is little or no work back home in their English speaking countries, and some because they are unemployable elsewhere due to reasons that come up here on the board regularly.
You have people like Prodigy who worked there some years ago for a short while, but he strangely comes back regularly to tell everyone here how awful it is. It seems to have a negative effect on the psyche of many.
