Anyone know where one can purchase used videocassette feature films or brand new videos for mucho cheapo? I brought my vcr and about 50 flics to MX with me thinking that there would be a huge used video market, only to find only one store in Zona Rosa that sells that antiquated media.

Check around on the streets outside la Cuidadela, near metro Balderas. Funky vendors selling funky items including vinyl LPs. You might find some VHS tapes.

In my town most of the video rental shops are being run out of business by privated DVD at 3 for 50 pesos!!! So that means they are closing up and selling stock--cheap. VHSes for like 15-20 pesos and original DVDs for 30!. The two rental places that seem to be hanging on are going pure digital and selling off their VHS cassettes. They have a big bin at the front of the store. I imagine something similar must be happening all over the country???

When I first arrived in Mexico City, one could find the odd vendor selling VHS tapes. DVDs weren't being cloned as they are now, but some other format (VCD maybe) was getting to be popular. Usually camera-in-the-cinema jobs.

Everything is a cloned DVD now though, and like where you are Melee, cheap. 5 for 50 pesos at one place nearby.

Even then, it's just as easy to download the movie you want from the net if you have hi-speed internet. That's pretty much how the pirates get their originals.
