I'm getting my CELTA in August and interested in working in Hong Kong. I've never taught anywhere before...this is a total career change for me. Is it possible to find work as a Newbie in Hong Kong, or will I have to go to Taiwan/Korea/anywhere else on the globe first?

It is possible to get a job as a newbie here, bt the pickings are slim. Most places want you to have experience. The ones that are willing to offer you a position without experience usually offer low pay. It's just like any other normal job market.

If you simply desire to work in HK, then you shouldn't have a problem finding a position. However, if you need a job with a decent salary for a newbie I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

Basically what yellowhair is trying to say is that having just a CELTA, it is good but don't expect to get paid loads just because of it.

If you get a reasonable job offer, take it and don't be too greedy with the expected salary until you get experience under your belt.

Most places in HK want experience.

I have been teaching in the mainland for a while. Also I Teacher certification. Are employers in Hong King receptive to someone who has experience in the PRC? I speak Mandarin if that is any help.
