Dara Torres, a 40 year old U.S. Mom who is certified to teach ESL/EFL, made the U.S. Olympic swim team, after a break of more than 6 years away from the sport!
She beat competitors less than half her age!
Read about her interesting macrobiotic diet and sleep habits (9-11 hours per 24 hours) and see how Dara has kept the ageing process at bay.
Had Dara not made a comeback in swimming, she might have ended up in Berlitz Istanbul, because she had previous contacts with Berlitz schools in the U.S. and Canada. It would have been interesting to see someone like Dara working alongside a teacher like Yaramaz -
Check out this article.

One also finds it sad when people do not take care of their health. EFL teachers have no excuse for not keeping healthy and exercising at least 45 - 60 minutes a day - as we generally only work 20 hours max a week, and have plenty of free time. Absolutely no excuse. And most EFL 'teachers' overseas are not married, so they have even more time than the average person.
If Dara Torres, at age 40, can reach the Olympic Games, and take care of her child, while juggling with other pursuits, then we (EFL teachers) should also do something about our state of health. Being lazy is not a virtue.
It is sinister to let your body deteriorate by being sedentary and abusing it (the body) with alcohol day after day. That is the real sinister thing. The human body was not meant to be sedentary, nor was it meant to ingest vast quantities of alcohol - or vast quantitites of anything else, for that matter.

Ender sums it up beautifully!
Actually I have never met Ghost but he is a bit intriguing. I think he might be a really bland regular guy who has just developed this online persona, (namely someone with chronic Aspergers syndrome), to stir things up a bit!
It's okay in small doses but as I said Ghost go play on the other forum for a while. BTW I am currently munching Turkish Delight yum yum. |

I've met ghost. He stayed in our lojman about 4 years ago, in Kayseri. We offered hospitality and kindness, some food and drink, and honest information about our school and our lives in Turkey. I'm rather baffled as to why he is returning the favour with lecturing and criticism. I am neither obese nor overweight nor unfit. Hell, I just ran up the 5 flights of stairs at Nayah last night to go dancing with my friends. Should I have swum there somehow? Should I start running triathlons? Shall I start working at Berlitz?!?
Ghost, wtf?????? |

Just read the article and realised what I am doing wrong... I need to hire people to do everything for me!
