Hey Everyone, I have been contacted by Premiere recruiting to teach in Khobar. He wouldn't tell me the name of the place but said it was a new university. I assume it's PMU. I passed the Premiere phone interview, and (steve) said the university will call me. He also told me about going to Bahrain on Aug 25, 2007! I am a 33 year old american muslim convert married to an arab with 2 little girls. We are all american citizens and look forward to moving to the mid east.
Also, I think you guys And Gals are hilarious! brasscat, Vander....., veiled sentiments, mike buchanon, and 007 (If I forgot anyone I am sorry) I send my best regards. Everyone sounds like they would be excellent neighbors and collegues. If you have any advice about contracts let me know. I think I will ask for the world......I will really barter hard if they want me to leave in 3 weeks. I heard I have to leave by Aug 25 because classes start on september 8.
I have to up root my family!
I hope to hear from you,
Latteegirl1974 (yes i know latte is spelled wrong in my name) |

One thing I detest --- muslims that disrespect family names! My name in NOT mike buchanon! Any idiot can copy and paste if they can not spell.
Mike Buchan --- OK?
Here is my advice ---- you should stay in the states. You are not ee commings, so I suggest you use capital letters and get glasses to read by. |

Does anyone know if the classes at PMU are seperated by gender. I was told I was going to teach women???? Does this sound accurate? |

Are you desperate for a job? Would you accept a job in the states without knowing the name of the company?

Ask your employer for more details! You should also work a bit on your punctuation. |

It's KSA. Of course classes are separated by gender. This is also true of the teaching staff in most cases. In spite of you screen name, I assume that you are male? At the few places that allow men to teach women, you will do it by television. Personally I can't think of a less pleasant way to teach.
And BTW, this is an English teacher's board, so you can expect to get zapped for spelling and grammar mistakes. If you have no time for proofreading, you need a thick skin.

Steady up folks! A bit harsh methinks. The gal or guy (not sure which to be honest) was merely trying to get some information and was obviously in a bit of a hurry so no need to turn on the flamethrower eh?
And Mike Buchan, you were really rude for a petty reason. People mispell my name all the time, but I don't lob metaphorical grenades at them. Did I detect a touch of racism too with the Muslim insult?
chill out. We're all chalkies here!

I am a young woman with a disabled husband and two small girls 3 and 4 years old. I am trying tomake a living like everyone else. I have been teaching english to both adults and children for 5 years. Yes it is true, I'm always in a hurry. My kids drive me nuts and I don't even have time to think. When I post I just enter it- sort of like a blog! |

Saudi might not be the place for you. If your husband's disability prevents him driving then life will be difficult, especially with two young kids. Unlike Europe and, I imagine, North America, little thought is given to disabled people in the Gulf and they are rarely seen in the streets, where decent pavements (sidewalks) are almost non-existent. |

No standardized consideration given to handicapped people in Europe, either - not as a whole continent. But that doesn't help the OP ...
Latteegirl, it sounds like a hard row to hoe...I hope you'll all be ok, but going to the ME with a family to support on your own sounds like a huge challenge.
Do you have family (your husband's, I am supposing) to help you out there?
Do you have family support in the States?
With children, this can really be the key (or at least, so I'm told by friends who work abroad with young families). |
