So why did the spook not make it in Turkey ? And why did he fail as a French teacher in British North America ? Is he perhaps unsuited tp pedagogy ?

And why did ghost say he'd like to see this wonderful Dara working next to teachers like yaramaz?

(PS: I wouldn't worry, yaramaz. You're lovely and healthy and have no need to justify yourself, plus you take good care of your kedi, who's as trim and fit as could be...)

Indeed, justme-- Lola has the body and cheekbones of a very hairy supermodel. If that cat wore clothes, she could strut that, er, catwalk like no one else!

I do still want to know why he wants to see me working alongside ber Dara at Berlitz. I really don't want to work at Berlitz. I've come too far in my life and career to deal with Berlitz!

Berlitz, despite what the detractors might think, is a prestige organization to work for, and if you work at a branch (in any country), keep your nose clean, and do a good job, then you can work at any Berlitz in the world, because the method they use is uniform and used throughout the world. Everything is scripted (like at Mc Donalds) so lesson prep. is not an issue.

They have a stereotypical way of teaching, but some students pay big bucks for that method - and if you prove yourself at Berlitz, they (Berlitz) will treat you well, and you can basically stay there for life.

I know many Berlitz Montreal teachers and they have been there for 10years or more. They make a career of it (unlike most language schools). Berlitz also pays a travel allowance, unlike most language mills.

Berlitz might not be the best place to work for a super creative teacher who likes to use her/his own materials and philosophy, but for those wishing to conform - then Berlitz is a good option. You just go in, take out the folders, all neatly organized, and teach to the script. If you are a teacher who does not have time for lesson prep., Berlitz is ideal. You may add more to the script, as long as you stay within the general framewok outlined for that day. Berlitz pays well. A comparison - in Montreal, most EFL teachers only earn $15-$17 per hour - but at Berlitz, many earn in the $20-$25 per hour range, net.

Ghost was recruited by Berlitz Istanbul in 2006, but chose to go to Korea instead - financial considerations overriding a more pleasant lifestyle (no doubt) in Istanbul.

3rd time's a charm? Why would you like to see Dara the Wonderful working alongside yaramaz, ghost? You've presented Dara as such a paragon of health and fitness, then singled out yaramaz as someone to juxtapose her with. What is your reason and how is it relelvent to, well, anything?

Or is it just a sad case of Dave's ESL Cafe name-dropping?

On paper - Dara and Yaramaz look like polar opposites - Dara - super Mom, organized, athletic, type A personality, focused, etc....

Yaramaz - more bohemian and type B personality, with less focus on athletics and achievement, but more interested in relationships and 'quality of life.'

Yaramaz is reminiscent of the 68 hippy flower 'power' type persona, although with age she has, one concedes, become more 'conventional' in her approach to life. But the two women, who are not that far apart in age, could feed off of each other, with Dara learning to 'chill out' a bit more, in typical Yaramaz fashion, and Yaramaz, in turn, learning to organize her exercise schedule in a more focused and systematic way, compared with the ad.hoc method she presently uses.

Check out this article from Times online, which shows how Britain has become a nation in which most people rely on frozen ready prepared meals for most of their nutrients.

The article shows that the best diet is probably one which uses lentils, beans and cereals.

PS For someone who doesnt actually know me and who only met me for a few days 4 years ago in the middle of Anatolia, you seem to know an awful lot about my life and how I approach it.

How is Dara a Supermom if she pays someone else to look after her kid?

I'm just glad he answered the question. I kept getting more curious as he kept evading it.

Yaramaz has a pair of shoes that I covet, which have flowers on them. This is the extent of her flower-power, I think.

The veracity of the answer is indeed questionable, but it's an answer nonetheless (thanks!), and predictably followed by more health information. Maybe if ghost got more exercise and spent less time searching for articles about health and fitness...

Nevermind.

Here is what ghost did today in Gyeonggi Do Province Korea.

Breakfast: glass of water. No food, because ghost ate some cake in Seoul on Saturday. Calories needed to be reduced.

9am - Went to the gym. Spent 2 hours on the exercise bike.

4.30pm - 45 minutes 'power walk' on a very hilly course, pumping the arms to the max up the hills. Ghost walks like a race walker to burn the maximum amount of calories and pump the heart to the max. It no longer cares what passerby think about race walkers bizarre mode of locomotion. In the early years ghost only walked at night to avoid detection. Not anymore. Time is too precious.

5.30pm - 45 minutes on the exercise bike at the gym.

Total exercise for the day: 3 hours and 30 minutes total

Height and weight at the gym: 6.2 inches, 155 pounds (BMI - 20) (1.87/70 kilos)

Nutrition for the day.

12 noon (after 2 hours on the exercise bike): Two bowls of homemade semolina with two small bananas. Orange juice and green tea.

7pm - after the '45 power walk' and '45' exercise bike:

Noodles with beans, onions, and lettuce. Two plums. Green tea. One very small ice cream scoop. Ice cream is consumed about once a month, maximum.

Late night snacks: orange, and bowl of cereal with soy milk

Other activities in Korea:

Saturdays: Ghost studies Korean at the Korean Language Academy in Seoul for 6 hours, from 10am-1pm, and 2 - 5pm. Ghost is the only student at the Institute to take 2 back to back 3 hour classes. Ghost has to make a 4 hour round trip bus ride from Anjung Eup to get to class on Saturdays.

Back at the apartment in Korea, ghost studies Hangeul writing and listens to Korean CD's (The Pimsleur series) for 60-90 minutes a day.

This is not an exciting life, but ghost has two missions in Korea. Learn as much Korean as possible during the time of the contract (1 year) and maintain an exercise routine of at least 1.5-3 hours per day. Ghost thinks exercise is one of the best ways to keep the ageing process at bay, or at least to diminish the nasty effects of the ageing process.

Here's a detailed list of what I did today:

On second thought, nobody really cares.

It involved a 4 hour breakfast with lots of food and tea, followed by peek-a-boo, and the highlight was when Ender rolled over and back again.

And I learned that it's a 'parliament of owls.' I googled it after I saw one, a parliament of owls, I mean, outisde our balcony tonight.

So yeah, it was a big day here in Justmeland.

If what you posted is true, then you are an extreme hedonist, paying scant regard for the consequences of your hedonistic lifestyle. But on a subjective level you are most likely 'happier' than ghost, who posseses a disposition which tends to be more negative.

Maybe this is as a result of the diet/exercise regime?

Ghost, as someone who seems to know a lot about fitness and nutrition and health, I am surprised that you made the mistake of omitting breakfast just to make up for a few extra calories from a cake! Breakfast is essential to get your metabolism going in the morning. If you don't eat breakfast, your body is coasting on no fuel and in the end you end up burning fewer calories because your body thinks it is starving and slows down to preserve itself. As well, if you skip breakfast, you'll end up hungry later on and probably eat the whole cake. It's better to eat 5 or 6 mini meals throughout the day to keep the homefires burning steadily.
