Is it better or worse than other cities in Mexico (in your opinion, of course). |

I've only really passed through, but I thought it was average. Some colonial buildings, but not enough to be considered one of the "jewels" but enough to keep it from being too modern. Large enough to find a wide variety of goods and services, but not a mega city either.
For the me attraction would be the surrounding countryside. The state of San Luis Potosi holds several of Mexico's natural wonders. |

I live in the south and I visited SLP a few weeks ago and for me, it was like another world! It is certainly not the Mexico I know, but that by no means makes it a bad place. The city is quite nice and there is a really great pedestrian mall in the centre of town. There are lots of great restaurants to eat at and they have some of the big North American chains like Home Depot, WalMart Super Centre and Office Depot. There isn't a whole lot to do in the city (but then really for its size, what can you expect) and as MELEE said, it is more the surroundings that are more interesting. The weather is quite nice, but it can be cold in the winter (down to 5C or so at night). It is the desert so it will warm up during the day but cool off when the sun goes down. Overall, it seemed like a nice relatively safe place to live and for me, I think that I could live a nice, comfortable life there.

Hmm, so far both replyers are from Oaxaca. Maybe people from Oaxaca are nicer than those in San Luis Potosi. Or maybe the people living in SLP are just
shy. Who knows? |

Of course we are two of the nicest ladies in the world!
But I think it has more to do with time and money. I suspect English teachers in SLP are so busy running around the city trying to piece together enough classes to make ends meet. Where as I'm being paid to sit in my office with no classes for the entire month. |

Did you try the search function? You didn't exactly say what it was you were specifically looking for an opinion on. I assume you are most interested in comments on schools and you should find some of that in the archives. Otherwise you can do a google for tons of general information on SLP. |

Yes, that pretty much sums it up as far teaching here goes. |

People from Potosi have a rep for being unfriendly having said that I lived there for a year and a bit and found them lovely warm and terrific to me.
Might depend on age though. The students were great no I didn't work at Cummins but lots of my friends did. I worked a many big factories and was driven to work when I was in the Zona Industrial.
If you are interested pm me and I can see if my friends who are still there will talk to you and give you some advice about how to have a great experience living and working in SLP. A few friends liked it so much they retired there.
Another thing I don't speak Spanish but it sure helps if you make some effort I would try all the time and the Potosians loved it. |

Yes, SLP through rose-tinted glasses - and it is a great place for a relaxing holiday... working here though, is another kettle of fish. So many seafood restaurants for a town in the desert. |
