My four year old daughter and I were at the local mosque, and we saw a good friend of mine walk by. My child asked, "Mama why does Sonya have a scarf around her face? Is her mouth cold?" Oh God, I should have said, "Yes her mouth is cold." and ended the discussion. How could I, it ws almost 100 degrees F outside! Wait until we go to the KSA, she's going to wonder whyor what are these crazy women doing?
The other funny thing is that we went to Africa last year. My sister in law didn't have a toilet, just a hole in the floor. I didn't even know how to use the darn thing. My daughter asked, "Mama where's the potty?" It sounded like that old lady in the Wendy's comercial Where's the beef? I was quick to say, "It's being fixed." She said, "Can I go in my pull-up? Yes of course honey." I didn't feel like potty training her all over again to use a hole in the ground. What if she fell in? Shocked LOL, I was afraid of falling in. Embarassed
Anyone want to share any traveling mishaps? Cool

Start learning. This kind of toilet is common in KSA.

The way to avoid embarrassment with 4 year olds is to go to non-English speaking countries so no one understands. Cool It is often a blunt but honestly curious age.

In a couple of years, she will find it much easier to use that type of toilet facilities that you probably will. And they are usually more sanitary since you can use it without touching any body part to any disgustingly dirty surface.

And take care with any western toilet that the locals also use. You will often find footprints on them as they will perch on them for use. They are as disgusted and confused by ours as we are by theirs. Laughing

(Scot... I don't know what a pull-up is either...)

Come on, people! A pull-up...it's the transition between diapers and underpants. Kids are encouraged to pull them down to use the toilet, but [url]accidents are ok, too. Please tell me this isn't a windup instigated by Scot.

I'm sure it's not a windup. Americans are blissful in their belief that American toilets and toilet-training techniques and devices are superior to those of the rest of the world. In fact, many of them, like the OP, don't even realize that there ARE other ways. Wait until she gets to KSA, indeed. Innocents abroad! Rolling Eyes

Commercials for these run all over the ME, and VS is a yank. So much for that theory.

Yes, but VS is a Yank who's been around and had her (?) eyes opened! VS's posts are usually pretty sensible.
About the commercials for the pull-ups, perhaps Scot hasn't seen those on TV. They're not the kind of thing that some of us pay any attention to.

I'll infer from your comment that you assume I have 'not been around' or had my 'eyes opened'. Yep. That's me.

Well, I didn't mean to imply anything. You said VS was a Yank and I was just commenting on that. I don't know why Americans take themselves so seriously. Lighten up.

Hey Guys, Can you shake hands! Who cares about pull- ups? Two grown- ups (probably men)fighting over where people are from, and what a pull up is for kids.
Why don't you start a new thread called "Depends" (Adult pull ups) My mom wears those cause she's old!

Oh boy... I guess that does make them adult pull-ups. Cool Hopefully I won't need those for another year or two or three.

While I have heard the loud and outrageous things that come out of the mouths of babes, I was fortunately never involved with toilet training which is likely why I never heard of them.

I didn't think that jwbhomer was picking on me... I like his avatar.. rather reminds me of dmb's... who I hope will come back soon as he is always a good one to lighten the mood. Laughing

I'd never heard of pull ups either.

With regard to toilet habits the fun thing is when your stay at home type findss out Arabs don't use toilet paper. His look of disgust is only equalled by an Arab's when he's told westerners do!
