I've had a job offer from Korea, China and Vietnam. Korea's not possible becuase he couldn't work legally. CHina doesn't pay well and my husband doesn't really want to go there, though I do. Vietnam looks good and they'll get him a visa for six months for 100 USD.

We've got a couple of choices open to us.

Basically, we could stay in Peru until the end of the year, I've had two job offers from British International Schools here in Lima. Problem is that my husband worked for the government and because they're so stable here, they broke contract and he's out of a job. So I'm working and he's not.

We could leave. I could go back to a school I worked for that has a branch in China or Czech Rep and I know it's a good school. Or we could go somewhere different.

WE could go to the USA, not my choice, but if he goes, he could learn English and if we stayed long enough, get citizenship. There's a programme similar to BUNAC for Peruvians and he could get an H2B visa which would be faster than a spousal visa, and cheaper, thing is would they give it to someone who's married to an American? WE're looking at all the possibilites, I don't want to go to the USA. I know it pays well, but it's super expensive. If we went, realistically speaking, how much could we save a month?

Do you know where in the US you would move to? Is it somewhere with family or friends to help you? What kind of job will you be doing, how about your husband?

When I set out to research those were the factors I used. You need to figure out your potential income, then look at local housing/ rental costs, utilities etc. Costs can vary greatly from state to state and even from within a state. I live in Hawaii, but I could never hope to live on Oahu. I found a cheaper corner of the state. Of course you also have to consider where you would find work and at the same time, a place where your husband would be comfortable. In my case, I chose a place with a large Japanese community. My husband can walk down the street and not be stared at and he can check out books in Japanese from the public library and buy Japanese food cheaply in the local supermarket.

Good luck with your decision where-ever you go. I guess you have thought about Mexico, that sounds like a possibility.

There a programme that sends Peruvians to Colorado, we'd be on our own. Me teaching somewhere, I have a cert, but not from CO and it's just an eligibilty one, I've never taught in a scohol. And he'd work in a hotel.

See, my husband wants to be away from latinos, good luck int he USA, because he wants to learn English, but I don't think he knows how shocking it can be.

Mexico, no. He's set against it and doesn't appeal to me either.

I hope it all works out for you. Colorado sounds nice. I don't know what a cert is (RSA TEFLA?), and I don't know what "it's just an eligibilty one" means! So I can't figure out what kind of place you want to work. If you are looking for an ESL position in the community college system you will probably need an MA in TESOL, even for PT work. Private language schools may not be so choosy but pay less.

If I were you, I would google the ESL schools in the area you are interested in and write directly to the director and send your resume. Say when you will be in the local area for an interview and say that you are willing to take any work, PT, evenings, weekends to get a foot in the door. Hopefully you can get your health insurance through your husband's job.

Then google the local newspapers and check the classifieds to see how much apartments are going for (or Craigslist). That will also give you a handle on living costs. Some towns also have their own websites and forums for people moving, so check those too.

PS--have you thought about New Zealand? You could also look into Fulbright teaching abroad scholarships or peace corps.
