...and depending on your age(but anything can happen at any age,right?)- how about EVAC to Hong Kong etc..A buddy of mine is going through that NOW: 9,200 USD to London, and that's through connections.A plane commandeered to London for the same purpose--- 200,000 USD
Get insurance that cover that, it's well worth the investment.

Good question!

I am also looking for Medical Insurance and would like the contact info for a good insurance agent in Hong Kong or Shenzhen that can provide this service at reasonable rates.

Perhaps Dave's ESL cafe can negotiate group rates for members.

I use TravelEx Health Insurance and have been using them for seven years. They have offices in Hong Kong, In the airport, in fact alot of the foreign exchange kiosks are TravelEx. Probably the median priced outfit, but when it comes to claims and payouts, no one can beat them..

How about Chinese Insurance for the mainland, such as Hospital Insurance.
Does anyone deal with a company that insures on the mainland.

I wonder whether the new plans to provide insurance to more urban and rural Chinese residents will apply to FTs as well. I'm currently browsing through job offers and I'm getting tired of those "Medical service: on the campus" lines as I well remember that those 'campus doctors' can provide you with some ointment and not much more. Once I had to go to visit a hospital in Hunan and spent half of my monthly salary there.

PICC (Peoples Insurance Co. of China) has a group plan called: "Comprehensive medical insurance for foreigner and countryman from HongKong and Macao" (sic).

Details can be found at:

As for cost, I don't know. My school pays it as an additional benefit for me, so the cost must not be too much. Very Happy

One thing, though, I was required to do a new health exam for coverage. It was the same health exam as is required for a work permit. Since I've been at the same school for a number of years, I haven't had one in awhile. That, or the FAO had lost my last orange book (the health exam book they issue when you take one). In any event, we did have to go and get a new one as the FAO told me PICC required it. The cost of the new one was paid by either the FAO or PICC; i.e. not me. If you have a more recent orange book, that'll probably be sufficient.

Check out the link above for more details about coverage and contact information for their Beijing office.

-Edited to update PICC link-
