In terms of posts versus time, I think we can say that the good EFL educators in Oman are on holiday/vacation/leave, call it what you will.

Some of us who are doing the Summer School in the colleges are going in everyday to what, to me, feels like a barracks after D-day! no familiar voices offering morning greetings, no passing on the stairs with a merry quip or two, just silence.

It feels like suspened animation. Less teachers than you can count on one hand, dedicated to getting those students who didnt make it - make it. This summer we are plodding away, trying to make the difference for these guys and girls, even to the point where I said to them (in the best of possible taste) "I don't want to see you back in Foundation next year, I don't want to have to teach you all this stuff again!!

Ah well, tommorrow's another day. Laughing Laughing

I hope you've finished your summer school now.

I recently finished mine - 6 teaching hours a day, 6 days a week. T'was a killer and I'm amazed any of mine passed, but pass they did and thank god I won't be seeing them next year in Foundation!!

NOw I'm enjoying my holiday with more spending money than I know what to do with!!

Nice to see you here again Tarka. Does this mean that you stay in Oman all year?

6 hours a day for 6 days a week in the summer heat?? Shocked

Hi Tarka,

May sound a bit silly but I never asked what the pay was or when I will receive it, or anything else!! If you are MoHE, could you PM me the details please?

We had a miserable Foundation finals result, seems some just will not learn. Sad Sad

I don't work for the ministry, sorry. I can't give you any details Sad Sorry! I hope you get your money soon.

VS > No, I do get the summer off but I had to stay in July as my horse (yes, I have a horse out here!) had a foal so I wanted to be around for that to make sure everything went ok - which it did Smile
I'm actually in England at the moment enjoying being at home!

Ahhh.. a new baby. Laughing

A friend of mine had a beautiful Arabian horse in Egypt and the people in the shops of our neighborhood called her "um kaitum" (I think that was its name... something like that... sort of like the singer I remember)

The famous Egyptian woman singer called Um-Kalthoum, also known as 'the planet of the east'. She is one of my favourite singers after Abdul-Halim Hafeez.

Of course... everyone knows that. But the horse was NOT named after the singer, it was a stallion
