I wonder if anyone can help!
I am from the UK and I have found out that Japan uses European DVDs. I was wondering if my DVD player would work in Japan? Would it plug into the back of the Japanese TVs with a scart lead? Obviously I would need to bring a plug converter, but what about the ampage? Has anyone brought any electrical equipment over to Japan?
Any advice is much appreciated.
Jess

I wouldn't bring your DVD player to Japan. There are cheap here. Bring yours wit you and it might get damaged. Japan and Uk are in the same region. Just pick one up(even second-hand) and just bring your DVDs and get them sent when ones come out that you want.

Have you looked at the two FAQ sections? There is info there for DVD and amperage/voltage questions.

Scart is totally nonexistent in Japan. They use proper video/audio cables - you know the red, white and yellow ones.

Plug your DVD player in here and you will be lucky to get the LEDs to light up with teh voltage being less than half the UK.

DVDs will play in both countries. I know that for a fact as I have some I bought in the UK that play here.

DVD players are much cheaper here than in the UK. And the salaries are better too... Wink

Thanks for your replys.

Re: Glenski, i did check those FAQ but I wanted to know if anyone had specifically brought a DVD over and plugged it in. And there is no mention of SCART leads in the FAQ. The FAQ do not answer everything.

Has anyone bought a transformer and used it successful on UK brought products that they brought over to Japan (with adaptor of course)

Many thanks!

I know of no one who has bothered to go to the lengths of buying a transformer. This is primarily because whatever you are thinking of bringing over you can buy cheaper here, no doubt, than probably the price of your transformer alone. Step-down transformers are one thing, step-up transformers are another.

Perhaps you would get more specific advice if you said what it was you "needed" to bring over here. Then we can advise on how essential those things were, like we did the DVD player, and save you the hassle of finding out what we know the hard way. How about it?

What appliances are so precious to you that you cannot bear to leave them behind Wink ?
