The Dutch do something weird with an engagement ring and a wedding ring. Otherwise, Orthodox Christians wear the ring on the right (Greeks, Russians, Romanians, Bulgarians...), other Europeans on the left, in the US and Canada, most seem to switch over to the left. I used to think the anatomy was the same everywhere, but I could be wrong.
I found it strange not to have a bidet in North America and was quite worried about it for a while, my daughter as well because she learned to use the toilet in Italy. Her Romanian father rinses and thinks using paper is nasty. We had a Turkish toilet in Vienna.
Things are changing in Europe, however. Everyone I know who rents to tourists in Croatia has just installed personal bathrooms for every guestroom, even though the tourist agency still considers their lodgings to be private rooms in houses. |

The one thing that I find amusing about all this talk about what hand to use is if we could only introduce the local population to an old invention of ours named 'toilet paper', then we probably wouldn't have to worry about which hand to use at all.
But anyway, I am a lefty, write, pass and wear my wedding ring on this side but scratch and wipe with my right hand. |

"Your heart is in the right place, but..."
Wear the ring on your right hand to avoid skidmarks. |

I was on a flight recently with a very muslim looking brass hat (I think he was governer of Bengkulu) and he wore two of the most enormous gold rings on his left hand. Real tarts' knuckledusters, they were.
I can only assume the guy has an enormous, bejewelled anal ring to match.
Stick to using the paper!! |

Just thought I'd share these explanations...
Why should the wedding ring be worn on the fourth finger?
There is a beautiful and convincing explanation given by the Chinese.....
Thumb represents your Parents
Second (Index) finger represents your Siblings
Middle finger represents your-Self
Fourth (Ring) finger represents your Life Partner
& the Last (Little) finger represents your children
Firstly, open your palms (face to face), bend the middle fingers and hold them together - back to back.
Secondly, open and hold the remaining three fingers and the thumb - tip to tip (As per attached image below):
Now, try to separate your thumbs (representing the parents)... They will open, because your parents are not destined to live with you lifelong, and have to leave you sooner or later.
Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings).... They will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.
Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children).... They will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day.
Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse).
You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT..... because Husband and Wife have to remain together all their lives - through thick and thin!
and also
I remember learning in Ancient History in high school that the Ancient Romans believed that the left ring finger contained a vein that rain most directly to the heart... |
