This may seem like a stupid question, but I will visit Fukuoka for 6 days next week, and would like to know if I can withdraw money from ATM's in Fukuoka and other areas of Japan?
Some people have told me that Japanese ATM's sometimes do not service foreign cards. I use Visa and Mastercard.
Thanks for any info.

ATMs you can use are a lot easier to find than they used to be, although more difficult than in Korea.
Basically, your safest bet will be the post office ATMs. They all take visa, mastercard and cirrus. Change the screen to English and press the top right button to get started. Post office machines are not the only ones you can use, but I don't think there are many others, and I reckon it's the only one you can consistently rely on. Be wary that a lot of machines do display the visa symbol.......but only take visa cards issued in Japan.
There's a big post office next to Hakata station (Fukuoka's main JR station) and another big one in Tenjin. Usually 'ATM corner' type places in malls will include one post office machine. Just be careful with the opening hours! |
