|
|
Hey I posted here a while ago and I have another question.
I'm doing a grad. dip. in secondary teaching in Australia at the moment. I worked at Nova for a few years and came back home to get an actual teaching qualification. I plan to work here (Australia) in 2008 and likely head back to Japan in '09 for a decent teaching job. Is there anything you folk can recommend I do? Eg, get more experience, get a masters in TESOL or Education?
I'd like to either work at an international school, a decent high school or a university, though any decent paying teaching career is fine for me. |

International schools require a teaching license from your home country, plus a year or two of experience there as well.
Universities usually require a master's degree (minimum) in a specific field like linguistics, publications, experience, and some Japanese ability.
Private high schools usually require just a vanilla BA degree, but if you get lucky with the right school, you might get tenure. Be careful of tenure, though. Lifetime work at a private HS may not be all it's cracked up to be. |

This is the most pertinent advice regarding your plans. International schools are your best bet given that Uni's require Masters and so forth, and private HS are such a gamble on getting a good one. Get a couple years experience (I think just one year is not enough) then take it from there. Worse comes to worse you will be in much better shape if/when you go home with a couple years of experience at home. |
