are foreigners still forbidden to teach kindy in taiwan?

even more so than before....we received a notice from our laoban about 3-4 months ago that the government was going to be cracking down on illegal kindy's and foreigners working at them....

YEP,
It has been illigal for years, every few years there are crackdowns, punishment has always been deportation.

yes, i'm sure about that....basically if the police catch you, your visa is revoked, and they tell you that you have like 3-6 days to leave the country, not welcome to return...i have a long time ex-pat friend (going on 10 years) who told me about a girl he knew who got busted, and was sent packing by the powers that be...

BigWally, have you seen anyone get deported yourself? I have known people in South Korea who got deported. Why was that girl deported?

I have not personally seen anyone deported, but I don't have any friends willing to risk their cushy bushiban jobs by doing kindy's.....

The girl that i mention was deported for being caught working at a kindy. Basically what happens, is the police show up and "raid" the building, and if they catch a foreigner in the building they are screwed and told they have "X" amount of time to leave the country.

I do have first hand knowledge of a friend, who has since gone home to Canada, who was working a kindy, when the police showed up to raid his school, and he had to run up to the 4th floor of his building (basically an attic/storage area) and hide behind some boxes, in order not to be caught....he quit that kindy shortly after that experience....

Yep, I also know several "personally" being deported, one of which returned.
Did go wioth them to the airport, but enouggh to have 2 come to my house to say their goodbyes.

ALso knew several people on the run with no work visas for 3 or 4 years. One guy who actually jumped the fence at Taoyuen airport etc etc.

It happens, They took their chances, some win some lose, but dont expect peeople here to tell you to do something illegal. If youw ant to be a criminal that IS your choice.

Most teachers in Taiwan that I know teach Kindergarten, you figure it out.

there are many ways to "illegally" teach kindergarten in Taiwan, for some the pay off (tax free income) is worth the risk, for others the risk (deportation) is not worth it...its a personal choice, how far do you want to bend the rules???

Why do these countries all seem to have stupid laws? I just want to be able to teach English as much as I want.

In England you would have to be a qualified nursery nurse or teacher. Many teachers here are not qualified to teach at any level, A degree in astro physics and a 2 week tefl piece of paper means you can teach:)
If you do get a real job, "government one" you will have to be qualified and work to the same conditions as local teachers. The Government wants to control who works with their most vunerable members of society

There are questions as to child safety/sexual predators (yes several teachers have been arrested/deported for this) wether to much English exposure is right at that age. etc etc.

All countries have laws, some seem unjust or stupid, but we are guests here.
