I was just hired at 59.

I had more than one offer.

Good Luck. I think that we are being more highly valued these days.

I'll just leave it that I got offers from Turkey, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. I also had offers from Korea and China.

If you have the credentials and overseas teaching experience, you should be able to get a job, but it will take longer than if you were 30. Experience is very important, so it may be helpful to do a less well paid job for a year to get the experience.

It is not exactly the Middle East, but Morocco has an age limit of 60, so they will not hire people on contracts for EFL teaching over the age of 58. Their logic is that that they want to keep the jobs open for their own indigenous young people.

I am in a similar boat, since I am 56, but alas, with only a Masters in Ed. not a PhD. Working on it and hope to complete it in two years.

So, I find it hopeful that there may be places that I can still go and work in the Middle East. Thanks folks, for your collective wisdom.

I have a close friend who just got a foreign hire EFL contract in Morocco and is over 65. It depends on the employer and the credentials that the applicant has to offer.

Most employers in the Gulf are reluctant to hire after 55 or 60. Most but not all.

I'd say with an MA you would definitly get a job with the British Council in Kuwait or with Amidest ( both are recruiting RIGHT NOW).

Colleges here may also be interested. (AUK, GUST )

BTW- our place has just employed a teacher who is 60 if she's a day.......
